Home Remodel: Expansion continued

Since we’re not working on the house full time, things have been very start/stop. Drywall and stucco outside seemed to happen so fast. But since then we haven’t done much.

Isn’t it funny how I keep using “we”?? My contribution is complaining that it’s not done yet.

I guess that’s not entirely true. I did help pick out doors and trim, while also wrestling a toddler who did not want to sit still and talk to the nice man about our interior finish work.

So where are we now?

The stucco is DONE!

The color turned out a little more blue than I was expecting.

We still need to do the front and back porch. I also want to add some shutters and paint the door and whatnot, but that comes at the very end.

The drywall is DONE!

(How about a little tour??)

^^One side of the master bathroom. It’s kind of awkward to get good pictures because of the shape of the room. Not pictured is the two sink vanity, the toilet and the closet.

All of our windowsills, baseboards and doors are just hanging out upstairs waiting to be installed. The cabinets are ordered and should be in any day now. All our brand new kitchen appliances are sitting in the garage. (Isn’t it sad that I have a perfectly usable dishwasher just sitting out in the garage??)

I know the general paint shades I want, I just have to pick the actual colors and then buy paint.

Then there’s just floors and the tile work in the bathrooms. We do have our bathtubs but no sinks or toilets yet.

As far as I can understand, the timeline goes something like this:

  • Install trim (baseboards, windowsills and doors)
  • Paint everything white with a primer
  • Tape trim and paint walls
  • Get flooring (we’ll hire for carpet and do the laminate and tile ourselves)
  • Install cabinets
  • Tile the showers and add sinks and toilets
  • At some point finish the front porch and deck

That’s it! That’s all we have left. It seems like it’s not much and then at the same time it feels like it’s going to take forever!!

So close yet so far.

But here’s the deal. I’m doing a home birth and I refuse to do it in the basement. REFUSE! I’m 32.5 weeks right now. I have a home visit with my midwife (so she knows where I live and can get acquainted with my space) at 37 weeks. That’s 4.5 short weeks that Chris has to get things moving.

Why so slow? Chris has taken on some new responsibility at work and can’t take off as much time as he could before. So he can only really work on the house on evenings and weekends. Not to mention, he’s at a stage where he could once again use his dad’s help to get things moving. I think a visit is in the works but nothing is set in stone yet.

All I know is that we’re getting down to crunch time, the weather is finally nice enough to be outside and I am tired of having to emerge from the depths to get to our backyard.
