4th of July Photo Shoot

If there’s one thing you should know about me, I do not pass up opportunities for cute family photos. I LOVE me a good photo shoot. (I am also incapable of passing up a Gilmore Girls quiz should I happen to scroll upon it on Facebook or Pinterest. But that’s neither here nor there.)

My good friend Hannah of Hannah Grimmet Photography is always taking the cutest seasonal/holiday photos of her three girls. I am in a perpetual state of jealousy (seriously check out her blog!) Anyway, a week or so ago we were hanging out and she was telling me about this barn that has a huge American flag painted on the back. She’s driven past a million times and always wanted to take photos there but has been too nervous to waltz up to the front door and ask.

Lucky for her, I have no such fear. And in return she offered to take pictures for me too! I found outfits for the kids at Kid to Kid. Going there saved me the trouble of searching Children’s Place or Gymboree but still letting me get something non-Walmart at a good price. Win!

My outfit on the other hand was a little harder to decide on. Oh a whim I grabbed a romper from Old Navy (me, a romper, what?!). I was certain that the dressing room mirror was deceiving me when I put it on and it not only looked ‘meh okay’ but it actually looked awesome. What?! That’s right you guys..I bought a romper. I actually kept the tag on it in preparation to return it cause really would I every wear it again?

But then I wore it for the photos and decided that it was so comfortable that I needed to keep it.

My contribution to the photo shoot was sparklers that honestly didn’t look as awesome as I was hoping. The early morning light probably had something to do with that. Hannah, on the other hand, brought these awesome huge bubbles which made for some amazing photos. And now I have to go buy some because my kids are officially obsessed, and I am too if we’re being totally honest.

We took the photos at 7am-ish and then I brought everyone home and fell into a coma while the kids watched TV. It was all totally worth it. Check it out for yourself.

Disney Princess Photo Shoot

[These photos were taken approx Sept/Oct 2016. I’m just very belated on blogging ok?]

Like most moms, I’m kind of addicted to my kids (when they’re not driving me insane). I may be a little biased when I say this, but my daughter is cute enough to be at toddler model/actress status. A friend of mine is a really talented photographer and when I told her about this idea I had for a photo shoot (derived from pinterest of course) she lit up and we scheduled a date right away.

A couple Christmases ago, I bought Evelyn a set of 5 Disney princess dresses for super cheap on Black Friday. Combine that with her most recent birthday and generous grandparents and you have the recipe for an incredibly adorable photo shoot.

Scroll down and enjoy.

Why yes, she is combing her hair with a fork…er uh…dinglehopper.

Mickey and Minnie photo shoot

remi_evie017_copy

Remi’s 8 month photo shoot just so happened to be right before our trip to Disneyland. I took advantage of the fact that I had gotten costumes for the kids for the trip and decided to get a few Mickey and Minnie shots while I had a talented photographer there (Malae Talley Photo).

I’m kind of a Disney fanatic so these pictures make me obsessively happy. Like I kind of can’t even handle it. These are perfect.

Remington likes Evelyn significantly more than she likes him. Which is unfortunate and makes it hard to take photos of the two of them. They turned out pretty cute nonetheless.

Take a look for yourself:

Vacation part 2: Disneyland

IMG_0532 copy

I can’t even tell you how I giddy I was about going to Disneyland. Like seriously giddy. Disneyland and Disney World even more so, are like a second home to me and I love the magic atmosphere of it all. I couldn’t wait to share it with Evelyn. She was only 10 months old on our first trip so all the magic kind of went over her head. But this time at 2 and a half she would be the perfect age to experience the magic in full effect.

As it turns out, Disneyland can still be quite overwhelming for a two and a half year old. If you ask her she’ll tell you all about the scary pirate ride (Pirates of the Caribbean), the scary house ride (the haunted mansion), the scary car ride (Mr Toad’s Wild Ride), if you ask how she liked the Winnie the Pooh or Ariel rides she’ll tell you, “Yeah, but they were a little bit scary.”

But her favorite ride by far was “the horses” AKA The carousel. Yes that’s right, a ride that you can find in most malls, was my daughter’s favorite at Disneyland.

Anywho, these pictures will tell the story of our trip much better than I ever could, Enjoy!

Vacation Part 1: Arizona

AZ_0028 copy

^^New hair, fresh spray tan, ready for vacay

Mmm Vacation. I was looking forward to this for like a month. So ready for the warmth of Arizona, so ready to just chill and relax and let family play with my babies.

IMG_0149 (1) copy

^^What a good husband!

Our flight left in the afternoon and it was only like an hour so there was really no chance of either kid sleeping. But Chris was an angel and let me sit all by myself in the back of the plane while he took care of BOTH kids. I think it was the most relaxing flight I’ve ever had in my whole life. Seriously magical.

AZ_0003 copy

^^Look how relaxed I am on the flight all by myself!

AZ_0003a copy

^^Babies require a lot of crap

We flew in with Chris’ little sister Caitlin who Evelyn is seriously in love with so that was nice too. The whole reason for the trip was for Chris’ brother’s wedding. So once in town, Caitlin and I headed out to get a gift for the bridal shower that night. We picked something super boring off the registry: sheets, and then something that we thought would make a nice companion gift, lingerie. Obvs.

The funny thing is that since their registry was at Target, everyone who decided to also get the bride lingerie ended up getting her the exact same thing. Dumb Target, only having one bridal worthy type of lingerie. At least that way she can make returns and pick out exactly what she wants.

AZ_0004 copy

The next day I went for a brisk 5 mile run (half marathon here I come) and in return got a massive blister just in time for the wedding on Saturday. So..that was great.

IMG_0193 copy

^^Hugest blister EVER!

I set up a party with all the bridesmaids to do matching Jamberry nails for the wedding so we did that on Friday afternoon. Then Friday evening, the boys went out for a “bachelor party” (dinner and laser tag) and I went out with the bride and a couple of Chris’ sisters  for dinner. It was a lot of fun. We spent the whole time making the bride feel super awkward by talking about sex. But I mean really…what else were we gonna talk about the night before the wedding??

The morning of the wedding, Chris’ stepmom set up a little easter egg hunt for the kids. Evelyn LOVED getting two Easters.

IMG_0053 copy

The wedding was just beautiful. Evelyn loved running around outside the temple while everyone was waiting for the bride and groom to emerge. But she was not about to let the bride steal the show.

At one point I lost track of her and saw her little shoes peeking out from behind a pillar. She was playing doctor with Chris’ sister and having surgery done on her knee. Naturally.

I even managed to hobble around in my heels with my blister becoming more and more painful. Pain is beauty my friend.

I take too many selfies, true or false? Trick Question! There’s no such thing.

^^I seriously love this picture. Chris with his baby brother, newly married and ready to take on life.

Evelyn spent the reception shoving cupcakes into her face and dancing like a maniac. She is seriously so hilarious.

Sunday, we skipped church and went to visit my Grandma and Aunt where Evelyn got yet another Easter surprise. I guess it’s understandable that people want to spoil such a cute little girl. By now she’s a pro at opening gifts.

An Early Easter

IMG_7566 copy

^^Notice the super cool pink hair

I knew we would be out of town for Easter and since I didn’t want to fill our suitcases with easter eggs, we celebrated Easter a week early. I was on such a “buy all the Disney souvenirs” kick that I already had a bunch of gifts to choose from to give Evelyn.

One of the best parts about having kids is reliving my childhood and buying toys that I’d like for myself. I’m not really sure why I fell in love with tsum tsums, but I did and I can’t seem to stop buying them. The good news is, they are the perfect size and shape to fit in extra large easter eggs!

IMG_7548 copy

It was kind of fun to have some little eggs filled with candy and some special surprise eggs with tsum tsums inside. I loved watching Evelyn find them. Naturally she wanted to open each one after she found it, but we were somehow able to convince her to wait until she found all of them.

IMG_7536 copy

I think Chris and I had more fun hiding eggs and watching Evelyn find them than she actually had finding them. All in all it was fun day and I think Evelyn is definitely a fan of Easter now.

IMG_7550 copy

She insisted on hunting for eggs with her butterfly net instead of her easter basket.

^^Since it wasn’t actually Easter, I didn’t put the kids in their Easter outfits, and instead put Evelyn in this cute hand-me-down from her Aunt Lindsey. Lindsey actually happened to wear this dress to our wedding, so naturally I had her remake the photo for a cute throwback.

A Thanksgiving Tree

thanksgiving tree 004

thanksgiving tree 002

First of all, I know what you’re thinking.

This is just some lame excuse to put your Christmas tree up early isn’t it?

Why yes, yes it is. But let’s be honest, who needs an excuse anymore? My neighbors fully decked out the outside of their house for Christmas on November 1st. Like lights, wreaths, an enormous nutcracker on the front porch, the whole shebang.

I’ve been wondering where I would put my Christmas tree since before our living room even had carpet. Or walls for that matter. (If you’re new here, head on over to the home remodel to see what I’m talking about.) When the living room was more or less put together, I realized that it’s super tiny and there isn’t a whole lot of room for a big ol tree.

But the ceilings are high so I decided to get a tall and skinny one. And when I set my mind to wanting to buy something, I can’t really change focus until that something is in my living room, put together and plugged in. So here we are.

And that’s where Daniel Tiger comes in. All my fellow moms of toddlers raise your hands if Daniel’s in the house!! Daniel is in our house all the time. If you don’t watch the show, it’s a cartoon based on the characters in Mister Roger’s neighborhood and it’s full of catchy tunes that teach kids things like, “Grown-ups come back” and “Friends help each other, yes they do, it’s true” and my personal favorite, “If you have to go potty, stop and go right away. Flush and wash and be on your way.”

But I digress.

On a particular episode of Daniel Tiger it was Thankful Day and the whole town (neighborhood?) gets together and hangs thank you cards on the tree to those they are thankful to. All the cute little characters draw pictures and whatnot to their parents, teachers, and mailman and that’s when the light bulb went off in my head.

Yes this is a children’s show, but that’s a good idea.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what we have and apart from eating a crap ton of food (which I guess means we’re thankful for how much we have..or something) and going around the dinner table to say what we’re thankful for, our family traditions don’t focus a whole lot on gratitude. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great holiday for gathering and spending time with friends and family but when are we acknowledging our gratitude?

So here I am with this undecorated Christmas tree in my living room and this Daniel Tiger thank you tree idea in my head and BAM! The Thanksgiving tree is born.

The basic idea is to take time either throughout the month of November or just on Thanksgiving day itself and write a thank you note to someone. It’s a way to show your gratitude and help someone else feel appreciated. If you do it all November long, you could just set your cards on the tree as you write them, for decoration, and then mail them out later.

I love the idea of everyone sitting down and reading our cards to each other before we indulge in a lovely meal. And hey, maybe we’ll save the cards with the Thanksgiving decorations and each year the tree will get more and more full of cards and we can always look back and remember what, or who, we were thankful for in years past.

So here’s to a new Thanksgiving tradition! What do you like to do to show you’re grateful during Thanksgiving?

Celebrating Evelyn’s Birthday

So you guys might not remember this..but I just had a baby. Shocker I know. But I haven’t really felt like I had the energy to make a big birthday celebration happen for Evelyn this year, not like last year for sure.

So this year was just kind of chill and as a 2 year old, Evelyn still loved it. It was a two part birthday.

Part one was the Museum of Natural Curiosity on Tuesday. Evelyn was insistent on inviting her friend Zaydree (or dree dree as Evelyn says). They both had a blast! Evelyn was a little overwhelmed by all the people at first but when she warmed up to it she had so much fun!

Her actual birthday was pretty chaotic. I had all these grand plans of how I would make the day special for Evelyn but then Remi decided to be the snottiest, whiniest baby ever and wouldn’t let me put him down. It was causing me an excessive amount of stress and disappointment and Evelyn didn’t know what having a birthday meant and was happy to sit and play while I glared at my crying baby (Don’t worry, we’ve since made up).

My knight in shining armor (Chris..duh) came and took Remi to work with him for the rest of the day and gave me a chance to give Evelyn some one on one time. We had a ton of fun at the splash pad, then picked up her cake and her dad and brother and headed back home for a little family celebrating.

She loved each one of her presents and wanted to play with them as she opened them. I think next year one present will suffice. But her favorite thing was those silly little characters on top of the cake. She takes them everywhere! But she also loves her bike from Grammy and PeePaw too. She just needs to grow a couple inches so she can ride it.

^^Everyone had to wear a party hat. Even Pooh!

All in all the day turned out well in the end. And I don’t have to plan another party until Remi’s 1st next June. Whew.

Easter

I think I often overlook the significance of Easter. I usually think of egg hunts, deviled eggs and lots and lots of candy. This year we had the chance to spend Easter weekend listening to council from the leaders of our church and it was a good reminder of why we actually celebrate Easter.

If you need the reminder, watch this short but powerful video put out by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka LDS or Mormons).

On Friday afternoon, Evelyn and I made some Easter crafts. And by that I mean, I was trying to make cute Easter crafts and she just wanted to play with the mini pom-poms. Maybe still a tad young. She liked her bunny hat though and kept asking, “bunny, hat, wear?”

General Conference was wonderfully uplifting as always. My sister, Maddie, and Christopher’s sister, Caitlin are both in school at BYU and came over both Saturday and Sunday to watch with us. I have to admit that it’s harder to pay attention when you’re hanging out with people you like and just want to chat with.

We let Evelyn open her basket on Saturday so we could munch on candy during conference. The first thing she saw was the little stuffed Elmo and she hasn’t put him down since. She especially  loves sharing her meals with his wide open mouth and frequently sings, “La la la la” from the intro to Elmo’s World.

She really got into her Easter basket this year, playing with the toys and opening the eggs to find candy. It’s amazing how much she’s transformed since last year. I think we overwhelmed her with candy though, because she didn’t eat or sleep well the whole weekend.
